A new year treat...two for the price of one
A new year treat...two for the price of one
Every day there is
A little piece of magic
Waiting to be noticed
Old men
Trying to catch rainbows
Splashing in rainwater
Laughing like drains
As hungry as young folk
Looking to be noticed
Trees grow out from the sea
Fish leap up high
Trying to pluck
Birds from Mangrove branches
Pelicans circle bathers
Trying to find safe landing
A million Midges
Swarm in clouds
Resembling tornadoes
A dizzy mating dance
Above the trees
Tired cyclists
Burst out of lycra
And young mum’s
Push buggies at high speed
Winning the race
To keep in shape
As an old dear
In a gabardine coat
Nods her head in the corner
Of the cafe
Over coffee and a hardback
Every day she reads a little more
From the freebies
Left on the wall
By Lady Jane
With the swan neck
And ugly bruises on her arm
Her appearance
Can cause alarm
But she ignores it
From the moment
It occurs
She has a fine voice
For singing
Soon it will be used
To perform
A different song
And that will be a day
Of wonder,
Miracle and magic.
Hope is in despair
As it lies wanting
Waiting for time
To break its hold on
Our disrepair
Dreams are broken
In anticipation
Of the moment
Sleep falls from our eyes
As a token
Of the breathless
Underlying reason
We all experience
Sturm und drang
Before we go.
