Bigotry unbridled
Bigotry unbridled
We know who,
It’s not me or you
It’s not the people next door
Who all have good manners
And never make a noise
They are different to the others
You know the ones
Not the indigenous peoples,
Or the refugees seeking a better life
The people without jobs
Who queue outside the social
Waiting for it to open
To borrow money for food
Or wear hats made of silver foil
No not them, they are troubled
Nor the people who believe in the old world
The one with misogyny and racial intolerance
Sanctified by the word
Of a few scribes,
Men of course,
Who delighted in maintaining the old order
Keeping the word to themselves
Until universal suffrage
And compulsory education,
No not them.
Not the apologists of an arcane belief
In obscure conspiracies
The Illuminati or the Masons
Or worship at the feet of idols
Kiss the ring
Join Fraternity clubs
Haze newcomers
Bully the weak
Think a sorority club is a sewing circle
Stop women from attending University
Believe equal opportunity
Is a step-down
No not them.
Not the founders of the gun lobby
Or anyone who believes fossil fuel is a good thing
That global warming does not exist
Not the sexists, Marxists, fascists, Maoists or Taoists
Not propagandists, nationalists or internationalists
Or supporters of state-owned football clubs
Especially those in black and white.
Or believe a constitution is a religious tract
That the signatories were saints
A redneck is an Australian spider
A gun is a peacemaker
An opponent is an enemy
And the only thing that they understand
Is brute force
No not those.
Not any of them really
But all of the others
The strangers I have never met and never will
Who are unlike me
And unlike you
Not us
But them
That’s who.
