Coffee shop diversion

When the sun shines

High in a Wedgewood sky

Too bright to look upon

Even its reflection

Dancing across a

Blue green sea

As flat as a duck pond

In the middle

Of a picture postcard village

The wind barely ruffling parasols

Shading the diners

And coffee drinkers

In a pavement café

The noise of the street

Blending with the music

Of a jazz combo

Shuffling through

A well worked version

Of All blues

Conversation swells

With every crescendo

Even the waiter

Walks with a sway

Cell phones chirp

In harmony

A jet plane

Leaves a vapour trail

The only blot

On the landscape

An over filled

Litter bin

Waiting for street services

To recycle

Cardboard containers

And send doggy bags

To landfill

A self-satisfied clatter

Of electric tills

And exorbitant bills

First dates

Over highly elaborate

Dinner plates

All before the sun goes down

That is when

I remember other days

And I miss you

Even more
