Daily missive breaks into the weekend for Saturday the 1st of March.
“I know what it’s like.”
The old man said
From the depths
He had sunk into.
Lower than the covers
Further down in the bed than
I could reach
Without breaking wind
“It is easy
To be lonely
If you have no imagination.”
I nodded in agreement.
“I had a dance party
Full of wildlife
It was fun until
My house burned down
From the kerfuffle.
There was a gorilla in the kitchen
A dragon in the hall
A baboon bowled me over
As it dashed out
Chasing the dragon.
Before I could get my bearings
I knocked a pan over
A tea towel caught fire.
As a Cockatoo whistled
Colonel Bogie
In the corner
A magpie danced a shanty
On the granite worktop
Tipsy after too much whisky
He said,
Not for the first time.
There was a roar
From a lion in the cupboard
Above the cooker
Too proud to come out
A menagerie sang the
Hallelujah chorus
From the bathroom
It always sounds better
In the shower
Ridiculous though it may seem
Carpet pythons
Like the steam.
I don’t know where I would be
Without them
To keep me company
They stop me from
Eating all the bananas.’
I left him
Curled up
Under the covers
At the bottom of the bed
With a marsupial.
Warming himself
Before going into
Hibernation.
