Daily missive for Wednesday the 17th of May.
“There is something about a ‘know it all’
Blustering about molecules and atoms
Talking at breakneck speed
Afraid to stop
Just in case their wisdom is questioned
Cautioning about climate change
Over a latte.
The colour of the moon
The way stars align
Refusing to acknowledge that Polaris
Is a disappointment unless you know where it is
As the sky is a blank canvas
To the uninitiated
And should be left to Van Gogh
To bring it all to life.
There is just something painful
In the incessant chatter
Of an anxious attachment
Full of rote learning
An artificial intelligence
Rattling off as many salient points
As could fit onto the head of a pin.
Pulling out the stops
Which is a musical reference
All the way to Haydn and Bach,
Mozart was a child prodigy
But we gloss over his precociousness
And short attention span
As he was a friendly soul
In more ways than one.
There is just something about
Knowing such things
Pointing out the obvious
Before anybody has had a chance to draw breath
Afraid to be still
For a moment
As if they might be sucked into
A black hole
A void of self-doubt
Rubbed out
Discarded.
The only living boy
In a dead funk
Of their own making
Head down between their knees
Throwing it all away
Before it all comes back up
To be regurgitated
As anecdotal misinformation.
There is just something upsetting
About needing to be heard
When for the most part
Nobody cares to be told
What they don’t know
Until they have reached a point
When they do.”
