Did you ever find the one?

losscitytimelovemortality

Did you ever find the one?

When you do

You will know

And will stop looking

Perhaps not immediately

Although you should,

Most do.

Some habits can be hard to break

Like smoking

Or drinking on a Friday night

With the boys

When you are greybeards,

No longer boys.

You can be carried along

For a while

Until you realise

You have it all

And better stop

Before you mess up

Which would be unforgivable.

If you have found the one

You can still lose out

As circumstance

Has a way

Of twisting the narrative

Whether you want it to

Or not.

Some things are

Beyond our control

Outside the scope

Of our capacity to cope.

Death is an ambush

When it happens

It happens

But one love never dies

You don’t have to build

A shrine

Be a Mrs Havisham

Refuse to move on

Become frozen

In time,

An old curiosity,

The one will always be the one.

Regardless of the outcome

Or outside influence,

However, painful though it may be

To hear,

One step at a time

Inch by solitary inch

You will find a way

To carry on.
