Do flies question

lossmortality

Do flies question

Their own existence

Changing direction

On a whim

Landing on a paper plate

To stroke bristling

Whiskers

Wistfully

Directing vomit

Onto a cucumber sandwich

A valid comment

On the nutrient value

Of a picnic snack

Do they have a panic attack

Is body dysmorphia

A hot topic

In fly on the wall

Conversations

Is depression

A useful expression

In fly circles

A considered diagnosis

Of those excluded

From the secret

Backdoor entrance

To the waste bin

Listening to the buzz

Of excitement

Is the last straw

For many

Faced with the puzzle

Of a flyscreen

Do they see themselves

Dropping like humans

When all that they want

Lies on the other side

Do they know when

Enough is enough

Are they never ever

Satisfied

With an insatiable

Appetite for more

Whether they need it or not

Do they see the moment

Of their own demise

Reflected

In a dead dog's eyes

Do they question death

As they take

Their own last breath

Do they sigh

One last goodbye

Turning belly up

In surrender

As they die.
