Do you enjoy the dream

naturepoliticsidentity

Do you enjoy the dream

Of autumn

With its slow awakening

Of winter

The crisp sound

Of ground frost

Beneath your feet

As you wait for a

Perfect symmetrical

Snowflake to fall

Onto your outstretched palm

Melting into the skin

Do you like to plant

The first footprints

In virgin snow

Watch as a Robin

Cherry picks

The best fruit

From the birdhouse

Before the pigeons

Crowd him out

Do you like the picture

On a Christmas card

The lantern in a window

The cosy sound of laughter

Through the curtain

Or is it all too twee

For you

When the first blood

Of the day

Is all around

Should you choose

To see the

Scarlet

Spotting the white

As the fox roughly

Drags its prey

Into the shadow

Where reality bites

The hand that feeds

The needy

No matter how hungry

There is more than enough hate

To fill your plate

Anger may not be beautiful

But as an emotion

Righteously expressed

It has the power

To ignite

The passion

Of a rainbow

If you can follow

To its conclusion

The treasure you might

Find

May just be the key

To understanding

Truth is more than less

And lies amid

All the beauty

You can see.
