Don’t let the sun go down...

Don’t let the sun go down...

Dandelions are fighters

Proud to break through

A crack in the pavement

A brilliant display

Sunshine yellow

Blazing on a fallow field

A colourful diversion

Scattered over

Embattled scars

Sunlight refracted

Off broken wing mirrors

Sparkles of beauty

Splintered blood diamonds

Dancing in smoke haze

An upturned perambulator

With twisted wheels

Atop a rubbish heap

With a half buried street sign

As a reminder

Of the mundanity

Of a token barricade

Drawn between us

Tossed aside

In the breakdown

Even as a red rose grows

Against the one good wall

Still yet to fall

We hedge our bets

Over cheap wine

To slake our thirst

Hoping for the warmth

Of a loved one

Just one more time

Taking snapshots

Of the last survivors

Whilst trying to remember

Who fired first

The rain falls

A rainbow

In every single drop

As beautiful

As the first one

Why does any of this matter

When there is still

So much left

To be taken care of

Before daylight dies

And blood dries.
