Even as the sun shines

lossnaturemusicmemorylovemortality

Even as the sun shines

The heat of it

A comfort,

Its invisibility

Eating at the skin

Reddened by burning

And as the cooling wind

Draws its breath

Across the damage,

Soothing the transition

To a healthy glow,

I stand on the edge

Of madness,

Teetering on a precipice

Before a crater

Of impossible depth.

I stood here

Long ago

In the aftermath of death,

A timid stumble

From the abyss.

What saved me then

Was it love,

The memory of happiness.

Does it haunt

The dancing shadows

Singing still,

A siren’s call,

Shrouded in

Frozen smiles,

Drowning in

Sun dried tears.

Waiting for the fall

So easily made.

A simple step

Into the envelope

Of darkness.

Would I surface

In a dead sea

Swim alongside you

Would we climb

Upon an abandoned yacht

And sail away,

Drifting together

For all eternity.

Is that an ending

Or the uncertainty

Of beginning.
