Every day is another day
Every day is another day
Closer to disorder
There is action
On the streets
In the public houses
And town halls.
Debating chambers
Are full of hot air
When world powers are run
Like an estate agency
By gameshow hosts
With padded shoulders
And bouffant hair
Shouting the odds
Trading insults
With warmongers.
Declarations of intent
Stolen from dime store villains
The hapless queue for brains
In the supermarket
The last one sold
For buttons
And left the building
With the foil still attached.
There is fear
For the future
The tenements crumble
Tall buildings wobble
Every time a bomb falls
Half a world away
Too many handheld cameras
Create a fault line.
Everything registers as entertainment
Even resentment is stylised
To suit a modern take
On reality
History is always personal
To the victims.
Get off your ass
Conviction means more than
Speaking your mind
We need more dissenters
It helps keep the balance.
Burn the provocateurs
Is a falsehood
Even a Luddite
Can rattle a cage.
Paint my warship red
The notion of anger
As a tool
Is more than irony
When the world burns
And the billionaires
Gather to celebrate their nuptials
In peace
Having bought the rights
To Venice.
