Find a corner

mortality

Find a corner

Lay your body down

Ease those aching bones

Against the wall

Breath easy

There is nothing behind

To take you by surprise

It brings little comfort

To know

That all you need to worry

About is what you can see

How did it come to this

When not long

Before the first fall

Of winter

You still had a home

To call your own

Until the plant closed

And the bank

Called in the loan

The health cover

Went with the job

Your wife’s treatment

Took all the savings

The cancer took her life

A good send off

Took what was left

Apart from dignity

And that is a very thin disguise

Another freezing night

Hunting for leftovers

Will soon strip that away
