Four, fat crows

griefnaturemusicmemorymortalitydrumming

Four, fat crows

Splash together

In treacherous overspill

Mangrove coves

Screaming obscenities

In a tuneless caw

A murderous racket

Drumming claws

On the roof of a dirty car

Pulling at bins

Getting fatter

On human garbage

Is it play

Or are they serious

Jabbing, pecking

A dance macabre

In the rain

An Ibis strolls

Slowly by

Picking at whatever

Catches his eye

Decaying detritus

Peeking out of

Slippery Swampland

Silently growing

Reaching out

Onto broken tarmac

Salt-caked mud splatter

Eating pastel paintwork

As rusted hulks

Sink slowly into

History

Landlocked

Far from high tides

And rockpools

Until the wind blows
