Freedom

losscitypoliticsmemorytimemortality

Freedom

Is costly

It barters against

Disappointment

With its brevity

The butterfly takes wing

Only to fall

Prey to the swallow

Even before

Its course is run

Nothing escapes

The passage of time

It is a burden

To be carried

As the clock ticks

In concert with a

Predetermined life span

It is transformative.

Metamorphosis

Is a progression

Bound in the need

For survival

Only a jellyfish

Is a species immortal

A creature

Doomed to repeat its life

Over again

Without choice or chance

To put things right

There is no escape

No destiny to fulfil

Nor freedom

To choose another course

It drifts

In vast confines

From one beginning

Unto the next

From whence

Will come the learning

From its life

Or from its death.
