From the silence
From the silence
You assume I have nothing to say
From my withdrawal
I am lonely
But like that damn cat
Who jumps off the mat
To lie next to you
On the bed
Tickle your nose with his whiskers
Purr in your ear
Burow beneath the pillow
To move your head
It is not just hunger
It is not just the attention
He is a romantic
With a wish to fulfil
It is written in his stars
But he keeps a lid on it
Too stubborn to take it off
Twines around your ankles
Brushes past your legs
It’s not that he needs a cat treat
Or the keys to the meat-safe
He is a lover
But is too stubborn
To let his cat out of the bag
For fear of losing a life
As long as he doesn’t say
Anything
One way or another
All of his options are open
None of his lives are taken
He is a Schrodinger
An enigma
Favouring philosophy
Over ideology
And just like that feline
Until I say that I don’t
Assume that I do
I’m a stubborn son
With self-delusional
Relationship avoidance
Syndrome
And too damn cool
To lose a life
Pretending to be
Anything other than
I think I am.
