Give me a reason
Give me a reason
To remain earthbound
When so much happens
Outside of the realm of the everyday,
I heard you say,
At least I thought it was you
Until the truth dawned,
Not as intensely as a sun
There was no great awakening
Incandescent burning
Stealing half shadows
Or darkness taking flight.
Intimacy is as fleeting as wispy wraiths
Waiting to reaffirm
The meaning of suffering
Taking it unto themselves
Holding it in their arms
Close to breathless chests,
Before spreading it wide
Scattered irresponsibly, as wild seed
Fallen upon barren ground.
Nothing good comes of expediency
It is why we dissolve into a wake of
Salted tears
When answers are written
Unseen among the stars
Pulsing with kinetic energy, waiting to go pop
In a series of champagne moments,
Dissolving into the eternal
Where the old ways still hold sway
Curtailing the joy of freedom,
Taking the high ground
Painting it with an anomaly of morality
Wishing it on a sixpence.
All of our yesterdays
Would be nothing but a pipe dream
And tomorrow would see our
Spirits soar as high as morning stars
Seen through a pinhole camera
In the upside-down,
Magical as a smoke-filled lantern
In the deep of the once-forgotten
Broken as a drunken fire door,
Held ajar for the safety of the multitude
When a host of concerned parties
Awaiting sufferance
Distort darkness to remain earthbound
Even for the moment, it takes to recall belief
In a whisper of goodbyes,
As a catchment of watery souls
Take their leave
Into the realm beyond
All at once, I behold
The fluidity of meaning
