Give me a whiteout

naturecitypoliticstimelovemortality

Give me a whiteout

To a hurricane

A cyclone to a Southerner.

The crispen crunch

Of virgin snow

Pure of intention

Hiding a range of uneven

Surprises

Below a softened blanket

Potholes so cleverly disguised

Awaiting a misplaced step

From a tenderfoot

Dusty snow

Drifting over hedgerows

Leaving gloriously

Secretive tunnels

Silent runnels for the crafty fox

To get from here to there

Stalking playful bunnies

Tiny little footprints

Crisscross glistering crystal

Birds in search of a small

Crumb of comfort

The first bite of the day

For the Redtail Kite

Winter Raptors in full-flight

Whistling through the air

Darting down

To catch the Sparrow

Unaware.

Everyone needs to start

Their day with breakfast

Hardened travellers

Dress for the weather

Christmas cards

Are not the only story

But there is welcome

In the brisk cold air

Of morning

Barely present in

The thrashing of a cyclone.
