Have I walked this way?

lossnaturemusicmortality

Have I walked this way?

There is familiarity in the air

A smell of grapes ripening

On the vine

Freshly ground coffee,

An italian blend

With an aroma of juniper

The grass grows tall

As if not walked on at all

Springing up behind

Completing a disguise

As there is to be no return

Even the butterflies

Flutter by in one direction

Stumbling in flight

A legion of lost boys

Plunging headlong

Into the forest

Looking for Wendy

Would that I could go back

As the trees bow down

Crowding out the sun

The darkening

All but quickening,

Twilight is beautiful

For its brevity

Birds sing in shadow

An ethereal accompaniment

To a faltering step

Before

The raggedy traveller

Learns to read

Well meaning signs

Of recognition

Collecting

At the edge of sight

Jostling for prominence

Building blocks

And markers

Helpmates or hinderance

Who can say

In the dying moments

Of the day
