Have you ever sat, wrapt

griefnaturemusictimeloveidentity

Have you ever sat, wrapt

By the sight of water dripping from a tap

Into a washing bowl

Filling it up, drop by drop,

Right up to the rim and then above

Waiting for the surface tension to break,

The water to tumble,

Over the sides

Do you ever wonder if it will just keep rising

Water never seems to hold itself together

Long enough to make an impression

Unless it is frozen

Waiting for the wind to blow

Splintering icicles into a million shards

Polished diamonds

Spiralling to the ground

Fracturing white light,

Across the spectrum

Scattering fireflies far and wide

More light than is left in the sky

Which blinks back tears of wonder

As the easy pleasing Willow trees

With their penchant for bouffant

Mop tops

Bow,

In recognition of the weight of things

Waving their farewells

To the lonely hearts

Who used the canopy for shelter

When the storm broke

Every lowered branch

A cover for their story

Waiting to be shared

As the river flows slowly by,

A lugubrious companion

Full of fallen tears,

Did you ever wonder why

The branches hang so low

Brushing the ground in supplication

Dragged down by doubt and sorrow

So many sad tales whispered

In the leaves

Carried on the wind

They tinkle like tubular bells

The church clock chimes the hour

And all is well

Until the surface tension breaks

When in a moment of uncoupling

The whole world falls through the cracks

Between steepled fingers

Into rebellious liquid overflow
