Hold back the night

naturecitytime

Hold back the night

Slide into its velvet gown

Lift your lowly gaze

Unto the heavens

Your eyes a blaze

Of fiery colour

Gleaming in a glow

Of light celestial

Cry not for me

But for a scene of wonder

At the movement

Of Cirrus clouds

Across an airy sky

Soft furnishings

Decorating a vast room

With simplicity

Melting as darkness

Claims its prize

Hold back the night

Not for me

But to delay

Gratification

Of a moment

Charged with the minute

Undulation of

Twinkling stars

And cry together

For the subtle beauty

Of a deep and darkly

Patterned sky

Overridden by

The trickery

Of a flaming

Shaft of sunlight.
