I am ungrounded

naturecitymemorytime

I am ungrounded

If I lose my feet

I will be raised up

Carried away,

Floating

On the wind

Dissipated

Dashed on rocks

Nipped by sand crabs

Encrusted in barnacles,

Broken beneath

A picture book cliff

Dappled in sunlight

The sea a sparkle

Of infinite surprise

Is as much a prison

As a feature

Of unparalleled beauty

Captured for posterity

Storied in history.

Drown me in fairy dust

Nectar of the gods

A tincture of shadow

Pocket me a rainbow

Filched from a story

Spread me as thin

As a reel of film

Full of make-believe

Waiting to roll

Across the silver screen.

I am nothing

If not forgotten

By the time

I reach the ground.
