The old dog snores

naturemusictimeloveidentity

The old dog snores

Sleeping for longer

Now that he is older

Than when he ran all-day

Chasing his tail

Playing with his family

Patrolling his land

Keeping the wolves from the door

He dreams of them now

Even as they circle

Reminding him of his beginnings

Twisting all of his truths

Trying to pry him away

From the place, he knows best

The people he loves most.

They are his pack now

He has grown with them

But the wolves nip and tease

Calling him out

Telling him to run wild

Under the stars

Until he is found free

In the high country

Under a different moon.

Sometimes,

When it is high and full

He can feel its pull

And in his sleep

He howls.
