I climbed a mountain
I climbed a mountain
Higher than the clouds
The heart of me
Bursting
A thunder in the ears
Pounding with the majesty
Of the moment
Perhaps there was
An angel
Guiding every step
As slippery
Rocks slid beneath
Uncertain feet
The crumbling path
Wet with humidity
A reckless trek
To find whatever had been lost
When there was no
Real indication
Of what that might be
Where to find it
What it may look like
Or what to do with it
When once it was found
Perhaps the fear of falling
Was reason enough
To keep moving
It drove me on
There was achievement
In its completion
Whether that was
An acceptable emotion
Not spiritual enough
Leaden and base
Lacking in altruism
Or truly what I felt
Perhaps I found
What was lost
In the moments
Before I realised
There was something missing
In the first place
Perhaps
It was always there,
Closer to the edge
Believing itself invisible
Standing
In shadow
Right beside me
All the time
