I gaze at the horizon

lossnaturemusicmemorytimemortality

I gaze at the horizon

It shimmers

Glimmers

Never still

Moving further away

All things converge

Into a single point

Of focus

A singularity

It is a mathematics

More ancient than science

If I were to reach it

Perhaps I, too, would disappear

Stars wink out

Plucked from the sky

Snuffed out too easily

Do they ever truly fall

How would I know?

When light changes

From silver to gold

Things look different.

Only an expectation

Of purpose will remain.

The sharp cry

Of birthing

The excitement of life

The dull inevitably

Of dying,

The balance maintained.

There is always

Celestial movement

An axis of rotation

The passage of days

The call of nature

As new dawns break,

And I recall

What brought me here

Was lost

In the moment

Of delivery.
