I have no time for mirrors
I have no time for mirrors
They teach me nothing
I didn’t know already.
Hold them up and they do little
But reflect an idea we have of ourselves
The nature of the world
Turned around.
A door,
However,
Is a challenge
Much like a book
An unasked question,
An entry into the future
The potential for surprise.
A moment of surrender
As the leaves fall open
To reveal
A page full of new thoughts,
Boldly spoken prose,
Flowing effortlessly from beginning to end.
A door is more than a window
Brimming with promise
Charged with possibility,
Bigger than a question
More exciting than an answer.
Leave it closed
And we will never know
What lies on the other side
Wherever it may lead
How in the act of stepping through
We can be transported
Into another realm
An enchantment
Of hope and likelihood.
The probability of danger
And its potential for growth
As rewarding
A factor
As the development
Of imagination,
Emotional intelligence
And the impact
Of experience
