I see you walk by

Lost in thought

There is steam on the window

The coffee tastes better

On the inside

So many people in the world

Tell different stories

About the same view.

We went to Greenwich

To see the Cutty Sark

A tea clipper

That is more than a museum,

It is a romantic dream.

We had a picnic in the park

With fresh strawberries and cream

The wind in the willows

Is more than a tagline

For a family outing.

It is a perfect day to fly,

The kite is a triumph

Of do-it-yourself

Kitchen ingenuity

Held together with paper glue

The ribbons, a revelation.

Every time I look outside

You are standing at a window

Dressed to be seen.

The shopping bag

Is full of love

There will be something for me

Without even asking.

I’ll say it’s not needed

Nevertheless,

I am still grateful.

The chatter of Saturday

Spills over to Sunday

Every weekend is a tonic

Brimful of reasons to get through the week

In one piece.

Some of the time

I know what you mean

Before you have said it.

Your coffee is waiting

The smile on your face

Is worth more than

All the tea in China

Do people still say that,

I wonder.

And as I lift my cup

I smile at the memory

Of walking through a tunnel

Beneath the Thames.
