I stand at a crossroads

politicstimeloveidentitymortalitysolitude

I stand at a crossroads

It is the witching hour

With time enough

Only for one wish

What will it be

Do I privilege those

Less fortunate than me

Be generous with my freedom

To choose

Accepting of another’s desire

If it conflicts with mine

Will that be

The best use of my time

Balance takes a while

To be even-handed

Disagreement

Reminds me of difference

I can learn

From acceptance

Of a broad church

Of opinion

When what is right

Might benefit others

Sisters, brothers

Indivisible

But separated by

Degree

If what I do

Really matters

Do I wish for a return

To pluralism

An end to isolationism

Political tribalism, populism

Fascism and terrorism

Turn away from

The myth of god’s given right

To be free,

Toward

The embracement

Of truth

As a complexity of nature

To be valued

Along with the notion of equality

Of opportunity

As a reality

When those for whom

This might benefit

Will not

Always be

Me.

I will get back to this alcohol break...but I guess it will be next week now
