If there is chaos

lossnaturecitymusictimelove

If there is chaos

On the inside

What hope is there out

In the open

Under the streetlights

Beneath the gaze

Of a full fat moon

If I scream

Nothing really changes

People shout from windows

A car horn sounds

Forlorn

In the distance

Where do they go

When the music stops

Condensation clouds

My judgement

Of the truth of things

Especially

As the temperature falls

Barely clad

Thoughts

Are no match

For an autumnal night

Beneath the stars

However brightly they may shine

Climate change

Is not for the faint hearted

Where was I

When the chaos

Really started

Perhaps it was before

My time when

There was screaming

From the beginning

Something about

The world

Made no sense

Even then

Perhaps the chaos came

With the transition

From comparative

Safety

To the unpredictability

Of life on the outside

There is no guarantee

Of collective sanity

Take me back

There is a wildness

About human nature

It threatens to

Turn my heart

Into stone

Petrified

For all eternity

Not a breath

Of a whisper

No wind to speak of

Anything meaningful

Barely a light in the sky

To see by

Candles not an option

In a smoke free world

No tell tale sign

Of an angels wing

Or the silence

Of an owl in flight

An oppressive night

Of indifference

With little acknowledgement

From the moon

Of my existence

There is no telling

Of an age old story

In the shadow

On the wall

It is not dancing

Only loitering

With intent

To disappear with morning

Inspiration

Is no stranger

To the danger

Of misuse

It is in league

Hand and glove

With the stench

Of perspiration

In the deeply down dig

For the truth

Of a conviction

Is there a muse

Buried beneath a layer

Of hopeless

Self-delusion

Is it open to abuse

What is the protocol

Is there anything left

To call upon

In the dark hours

Even as birds sing

Someone fires a gun

There is a shadow in the sun.

Drunken slumber

Numbs the soul

Deadens the spirit

Deprives the heart

Of its right to breathe

In time to the rhythm

Of a daydream

Broken crystal

Cuts the skin

Sharpens splinters

Catches the light

And scatters rainbows

As freely as archetypes

In a bad dream

Sing me a lullaby

Fill it with love

Gentle is the song

Of the pacifier

Easing the senses

Finding

A moments peace

Amid the chaos

A reasoned space

For the sleep deprived

Glassy eyed

But unconscious

No more
