Imagine

Imagine

If I could sing

Or play the piano.

Write songs

And put words together,

In a simple permutation,

With a soulful beat,

A syncopated rhythm,

That makes you

Want to tap your feet,

Soft at the centre,

And bitter sweet,

With a gentle twist

That touches the heart,

A subtle verse,

An internal rhyme,

With a poignant hook,

That captivates

When it returns

At just the right time.

And brings a lump

To the throat

A tear to the eye,

Makes a whole room cry.

How would it sound?

What would I say

If I could write

A book or play

And what would

It mean to know

Everything I said

All that I wrote,

The question,

And the answer,

Was always,

Honest and true

To the love

And respect

I hold for you.

So hear my song

Read my words

They are all

I have to give

And with you

To sing for

Even simple

Words like these

Can live

Forever.
