Between Each Heartbeat

lossnaturemusicmemorytimelove

Is it cold

Are you lonely

Waiting in the dark

I think of you

Between each heartbeat

Do you come to me then?

I see your face so clearly

It is tempting

To call out

Perhaps you are there.

It is so easy to believe

You are upstairs,

Lying down

Having a rest

Or getting dressed,

Soon to appear

Dressed to kill

Licensed to thrill

Waiting to set me on fire

With the merest brush

Of your lips.

It takes only a moment

To feel your love

And then the crush

Of absence

Takes the wind

From my sails.

I drift, rudderless

Lost at sea

An endless grey ocean,

An apothecary’s potion

Too salty to drink

Drips from the end

Of a broken thread

Once tied to the moon

As a balloon floats

Into the distance.

The dream is over

With no demarcation

The sky is sinking

The world shrinking,

The air so dense

Every breath is leaden,

The mechanics of extraction

Bring no relief

Just an agony

Of silent screams

Oxygen a poison.

My body offers no resistance

Weary muscles cramp

With the draining banality

Of this sorry

Excuse for existence,

Perhaps I will come to you

Find the truth

Of your stillness.

Together we can journey

To the stars and above

Transmute ashes

Into gold dust

Scatter this glistered

Philosophy

Around the heavens

Embrace the eternal

Drift of time

That will never

Be too long

As we come to know

The joy

Of love everlasting.
