Is it indifference

naturecitypoliticsmemorytimemortality

Is it indifference

To attend a Pilates class

Sip on a glass of Shiraz

During the evening news

Glance away to pour another

As the body count

Of another atrocity

Is being reported

Both sides blame the other

Which one is the monster

When children die

What moves the powerful

To belittle the weak

Rundown the poor

Everybody has a history

They want to be proud of

It gets harder

With every broken promise

Fat cats steal the cream

Keeping it for themselves

As lame dogs

Left out in the hot sun

Curl up in a corner

Of a scrapyard

Tethered to the past

Old wounds left to fester

With nothing but a dry bowl

Waiting to catch the rain

And be grateful

It is still free

What would I do

If it was happening to me?
