Is it true what they say
Is it true what they say
Is it only true some of the time
Does it depend on the truth
Does it fit with our beliefs
Who will it benefit?
You don’t have to take a life
Before you can give it
Whatever religion is
It is not an excuse
For misanthropy.
Whatever happened to the likely lads
I left behind
Waiting for the world to turn?
When it did
They were caught
On the wrong side of thirty
Wishing for a miracle
When they were never in with a chance
Of winning a race against time.
How they stropped
Pranced and preened
Pretending to be
Other than they seemed
Misunderstanding all they saw
Watching from the cheap seats
As those who did
Made good
And those who didn’t
Were left behind
Dreaming of a future
They were never going to see.
Tell it to the birds
They may stop to listen,
Chirp an answer
Seem to understand,
Dip their heads in time
To the conversation
But they are bottom feeders
Waiting to pick up the crumbs.
Even the raptors
Know when to fly away
Intuitively recognising
That the speed of fall,
Will increase mass
And impact the force of their attack
But they will never
Solve the Hodge conjecture
Or the Riemann hypothesis
Then again
Neither will I
But like a Starry Starry night
And Prussian Blue
I know they exist.
