Is there a moment in life
Is there a moment in life
When it is possible to say
“Ah yes, I get it now.”
Does it happen
I guess it must
At least once
The truth of it
The dawning of realisation
The falling away
The breadth of vision
The curtain drawn
Into daylight
When there is clarity
Symmetry
The fresh smell of a spring morning
Just after rain
When the colours are that much brighter
Edges, that much crisper
Every bless-ed nerve alive
To the slightest touch
A gentle wisp of wind
The breath of a lover,
The way the earth tilts away
Before you.
Rolling out,
An unbroken carpet
Alive with prospect,
As if you can step into the vastness of it
Travel forever
Without looking back.
There is no falling
A lightness of being
To be cherished
For its completeness
In that one moment
Until the first fumble
Becomes a tumble.
A jarring jumble
A mish-mash
Of crashing plates
Brought low
By issues of timing
Slippage and spillage
When the loss of “it”
Becomes real enough
To wonder
If it ever was.
With no way back
And little left to go to
When coming from
Is harder to escape
Than it ever was
To believe you ever
Got “it”
In the first place.
