Is there time enough

lossnaturecitymusicmemorytime

Is there time enough

To care

When the sun splits the sky

With religious zeal

Burning bushes for pleasure

Shouting them down

With the ferocity of a zealot

When dead-skinned men

In yesterday's clothes

Sporting whiskers and nose hair

Thrust glossy leaflets into the hands of young mothers

Pushing Maclaren’s

And ask if they have heard the good news

Is there time enough

To care

When salvation is sold

As a business

Make a donation

Wield the sword

Of the righteous

As an angry sea boils on the horizon

The arable land turns to dust

Blame it on the sinners

Who struggle to break bread

Rescued from a dumpster

A word stolen from the States

But packs more punch than ‘wheelie bin’

Is there time enough

To care

When the ice floes melt

Drowning the lowlands

Flooding the regions

With the relentless pleasure

Of a sociopath

There is no passion

In its inevitability

Certainty is rarely surprising

Only the chosen

Will be carried away

Lifeboats have no soul

They were designed

To discriminate

Against children of a lesser god

And it may be too late now

To show that you care.
