Stargazing

naturecitypoliticsloveidentitymortality

Stargazing

Unsettle me

With your absent smile

Barely recognisable

In the gloaming

As the light fades

Beyond the reach

Of the lantern

Shadows move me

More than the silence

They provoke,

Flicker my thoughts

Across the backdrop

Of a barren landscape

Without a touch from you

To tilt the moon

Out of its sorry decay,

Barter the sadness

Of an echo

With the sound

Of a teardrop

Tender its return

Honeyed with a taste

Of recognition

Easily missed

Its subtlety

Darkly insubstantial

Texturally incomplete

Only in reflection

Does an eyeless glass

Pointed skyward

Present itself

As a soulful means

Of escape
