Magpie

Magpie

Why do you linger?

What brings you here

To sit by my side

When we are both strangers

So very different in outlook

And expectation

Even in proximity

I wonder at your need

What drives your trust

When so many would

Want you gone

I am at a loss to explain

The camaraderie

Whether foolishly misplaced

Or not

It leaves me undeniably privileged.

What do you see

Unless it is something

I still struggle to see in myself

How long will this moment last

Until the cock crows

The sun moves across the boundless sky

The heat has gone from the day

Or until some other moment

When the winged wonder of you

Is lifted

Into history

Your interest

Taken by another distraction

As that may be all I am to you

As indeed you are

Only such, to me.
