My mind is clogged
My mind is clogged
With a complexity
Of disagreeable ideology
If the word is love
And blessed are the peacemakers
What is success?
Why is the pursuit of money
A measure
Rather than happiness.
Is contentedness
A worthy goal?
Am I a joke
Are you
Trying to live a good life
Whatever it means
When the messages
We get are mixed.
Love thy neighbour
But not too much
And blame them pretty quickly
For ruining the neighbourhood
If it fits a narrative.
I am blameless,
All of my friends
Are quick to report
That they are blameless, too.
The world is a colourful place
But it is full of strangers
With ugly faces
Trying to pull us down
Knock us off our perch
Eat our babies.
I will sequester myself
It is the only way
To remain pure of heart
Locked away
Free from the venality
Of a wider world
With its belief in tolerance
And inclusion.
A clever illusion
A disguise
A distraction to hide
Their true colours.
Nobody wants me to survive
Everybody wants a piece of my pie
Nobody bakes one like mine.
It is a common thread
Running through my head
Every day is the same
I am wholly innocent
Everyone else is to blame.
It wasn’t me
It is never me
It was him/her/they/them
It is never
Ever me
Write it down
I will give you names.
