My mum and dad’s wedding anniversary.
My mum and dad’s wedding anniversary.
It sucks.
There is nothing
To see here
Just a moment ago
Before the neurons fired
In rapid succession
Bridging the gap
Between cells
Communities of thought
Bundles of dendrites
Waiting to be activated
Worker drones
Sitting at keyboards
Printing circuits
To idle their time
Before the end of a process
Of relaxation
The cupboard was bare
With nothing to share
Every impulse
In repose
Schemata locked away
In representation
A file drawer
Waiting to be opened
Blueprints stuffed full
Of systems
Looking for a theory
To become a dream
Of significance
When every single construct
Is subject to reform
Even before
A thought
Has materialised
Plans were redrawn,
Discarded
Thrown into the void
A maelstrom
Of underperformance
Nothing lingering
Long enough
To register
Coalesce into meaning
Become significant
Until a finger twitched
Imperceptibly
The first word
Acting as a stimulus
Then, one after another
The walls came
Tumbling down
Coherent thought emerged
Into the light
And for one moment
Precious
As that may be
Everything made
Some kind of sense
Until it did not
The race was run
There was nothing to see
Not here
Nor there
Once again
The cupboard is bare.
