What Would You Have Me Say?

lossgriefcitymemorytimelove

What would you have me say?

Happiness is an illusion

Love is more than passion

Life no more than love?

We tore a sheet to shreds

One night

In a frenzy

It lives long in the memory.

Do I have to show you,

Open my chest

Pull out my heart

Hot and steamy

Serve it up on a platter

Tell me why?

We all bear a cost

For the way we live

Laid bare

We are all the same

Show me, somebody,

Who has no heart

There is nobody out there

Unless they misplaced it

More likely it is in hiding

So fragile are they

So easily broken.

Only dead tyrants remain

Heartless

And you want to see mine

Bleed.

What can I say

To convince you

Of the fact

You already have

The best of me

Laid out before you

Every day.

It is the only way

I know

To show you how much I care.

Hold me gently

Not too hard

Don’t squeeze

I have learned

To live with heartache

But there is only so much

I can take

Before the passion dies.
