Rain on me

lossnaturepoliticsmemorytimeidentity

Rain on me

Trickle down

Under my shirt

Soak through

Imperfect footwear

Dampening spirits

With every drop.

Eventually

As the drains

Prove less than adequate

The water levels will rise

Hipsters on skateboards

Aquaplane

Drivers ill-suited

To wet weather braking

Falter in a cascade

Of standing water

Soaking pedestrians

Close to drowning.

Yesterday was sunscreen

Heat stroke

Over-cooked bodies

Today is a surprise

Of flash floods

Land slippage

And sandbags

Self-filled

From Port Phillip beach.

Snow has fallen

In England

It looks a picture

On Instagram

Viewed over somebody’s shoulder

When waiting for a tram

Squashed into the shelter.

As people hurry by

In a slapdash

Of helter-skelter

And lightweight leisure wear

It is easy to forget

How cold it can be

In a Northern winter.

As warm rain falls

Down on me

There is no need

To be overly concerned

The worst is done

The wind is on

The turn

And unlike the snow

This weather

Will be gone tomorrow.
