Rumination: On the power of love and fragility of life.
Rumination: On the power of love and fragility of life.
A life
So easily lost.
A breath,
Exhaled.
Curling,
Like grey smoke
From an old Victorian
Chimney.
Dissipating.
Tossed on a wind,
That changes
How and where it blows.
Does it take me?
Carry my soul,
Whatever that may be,
Lifting it higher,
Taking me
Away from you,
When there is
So much
Left to say.
Should I hold
My breath
And stay this
Restless heaving,
For fear of
Life escaping,
And breaking
An attachment
So deep and warmly held
To you,
And all my earthly
Vows,
Made so long ago,
But just as potent now.
When,
With patent disregard
For love,
A life can be
So easily erased.
And promises,
Once so freely made,
Can be
Blithely snatched away.
Still that thought,
It may be nought.
And come tomorrow,
As it surely will,
The breath of life,
Long held for you,
Will blow.
A gentle breeze
Will pick up,
And scud across the sea,
Filling sails,
As it fills our hearts,
And we will
Be lifted.
Foundling souls,
Bound together,
With love
As a tether.
That never binds
Or chafes,
And it will
Have the power
To carry us both,
From here to there,
Forever.
