Dream of summer

lossnaturepoliticstimeloveidentity

Dream of summer

The smell of lavender

Growing wild at the roadside

Angry wasps invading

A picnic

In the forest next to the

High ponds

As the wind blows

In from the sea

Salt riming on dry lips

Shivering with recollection

The taste of that first kiss

The power it held

Still charging through

The synapses

Waking the dead

From a long sleep

Walking is company

Even alone

As tall ships sail

Over watercolour seas

Memories follow

A regatta in endless

Procession

Little ducks

All in a row

Flying geese

On mum’s wall

Where did they go

When the house was sold

Every dream is over

Before it has begun

Even as summer

Is endless

In retrospect

Remembrance gathers

Everything together

Shuffling the deck

Dealing the same cards

Until they all fall

Differently

With a familiarity

That lends itself

To the comfort

Of reimagining

If a dream was a letter

It would be unfinished

A symphony

That never ends

In real time.
