Spread like jam,

Upon the page.

When just a few

Would be more sage.

Just make it easy

On the eye,

Make the reader

Laugh or cry.

Take the time

Set the meter

Make it rhyme,

It is much neater.

Keep the rhythm,

Not too quick

Or too slow,

Not more but less.

Is just my guess.

Never let pretention

Stem the flow,

Plant a seed

And watch it grow.

To keep things nice

Be concise.

As wandering thoughts

Will come to nought

When all they do

Is add disguises

And miss the point,

You get no prizes,

And disappoint

If in every verse,

Whether much too long

Or short and terse,

You lose your way,

And never finish

What it was

You thought to say.
