Skimming stones is easy
naturecitymemorytime
Skimming stones is easy
On a lazy sea
With a gentle wind
Tiny sailboats
Barely move
On a slow day.
Taking the time
To choose the flattest
Most aerodynamic
Missile
Aiming low
Keeping the arm down
Whipping the wrist
On release
Hoping to catch the swell
On the upside.
Bigger yachts too far out
To be in range
Fall off the horizon
Eventually
Looking for Treasure
When it is right here
Watching a flat-stone fly
Counting the bounces
Hoping for sixers
Scraping a four
Pulling a shoulder.
It feels different
As you get older
Digging for gold
With a finger
On the edge of an ocean.
Skim a handful
Of memories
Watch as they sparkle
Catching the sunlight
Spinning their magic.
Simple pleasures
Easily shared
And remembered
With you by my side
On a beach
At low tide
