Sleep easy
Sleep easy
In your beds
Rest with a clear conscience
You have nothing to fear
From darkness
It does not hide any more secrets
Than you cannot
Already concieve
But casts doubt
On what may be seen
From the comfort
Of an easy chair
Investigate the hidden corner
Of the room if
It will help you
While away the hours
Before the light goes down
And the shadows
Fall across the floor
Emphasising the difference
Between what is seen
And what is known
Eventually you will tire
Eyes do adjust
As different objects
Absorb more light
Than others
But it is a foolish game
To play
As sleep has a way
Of creeping up
Unsolicited
There is an interplay
Between images
And imagination
Surreal connections formed
The world is alive
With lucid dreaming
When nightmares
Are a painful reality
Until the moment
Of waking
When a welcoming light streams
Through
A gap in the curtain
To chase all the demons
Away.
