Slip and slide between

naturecitymusictimemortality

Slip and slide between

An even keel and

The edge of my tether

Chasing the elusive

It is a thankless task

Take a leaf out

Of simplicity

Fold into the corners

Fit neatly into place

Be the last piece

In the puzzle

It carries a weight of expectation

A ripple of optimism

Dissipated in a slurry

Of disappointment

When it comes to

The realisation

Of completion

There is an art

In virtual disappearance

Practice may never make perfect

But camouflage

Is a fashion statement

Wear me well

I have looked this way

Since the bean counter

Balanced the books

With sticky fingers

And the light

That shone

In the eyes

Of the redeemed

Was exposed as a parlour trick

For the occupational dreamer

Finish me

I am nothing

But a trivial pursuit.
