So much left unseen
lossnaturecitymortalitysolitude
So much left unseen
The surface unbroken
By what lies hidden
A monolith of such
Incomparable depth
Continuing to drift
Unchecked
A gradual demise
Unremarkable
Even unto its conclusion
Barely a ripple
As it disappears
Into the dark.
What was missed
It was big enough to see
Well used by wildlife
A home for many
Sheltered from the worst
Of the weather
Even as it died
In salutary silence
Leaving nothing but
Its remains
Dissolved into the ocean
Another statistic
For the bean counters
What would it mean
If the iceberg was me
So much
Sight unseen
We are all adrift
Untethered
Will progress be charted
Imperceptible changes monitored
Before what remains
Unremarked upon
Finally slips
Into the deep
