Tethered

Tethered
Held by a rope
Tied to an ankle
Sentenced to walk in circles
A beast
Burdened with the knowledge
Of no escape
Yoked onto a heavy plough
Brow furrowed with pain
Lost in servitude
Felled like ripe corn
Dried husks burning
In a field of dreams
Nothing changes but the image
Helplessness
Is an eternal presence
There is no love without loss
Mercy me
Sweet are the children
Who sing of rainbows
When there is only
Darkness waiting behind them
Nothing is seen
Without being hidden
There is no heroism
Only sacrifice
No beauty without love
No freedom from the ties
That bind to consequence
Random chance or circumstance
Only the knowledge
Of possibility
The prospect of continuity
And the intrusion
Of conclusion.
