The flowers hit the bin

naturelovemortality

The flowers hit the bin

Red Carnations

Were not Roses

They were not the same

Their love might be affectionate

But not endless

There was anger and resentment

She had thought that she was loved

He had said the words

Written them down

On a card

A Valentine bouquet

Delivered to the door

But everybody knows

A Carnation is not a Rose

Perhaps she was undeserving

An example of people

Not exceeding expectations

How was she ever to know

If she was in love

When the men in her life

Were strangers to the wonders

Of romance

Was it something she said?

Perhaps she was unrealistic

But she would keep

All of her options open

Until she was swept off her feet

By the pleasure of a moment

When everything

Fell into place

And the anger was replaced

By something altogether different.
