There are too many

citypoliticslove

There are too many

Who believe

Theirs is the right side

Too few think before they leap

To judgement

Or to act

Failing to recognise

The irony

In putting hands together

For the ‘Lord’s prayer’

Whilst ignoring oppression

Loving thy neighbour

As hoodlums in jackboots

March through shanty towns

Administering harsh lessons

In social justice

A local Militia is an excuse

For a lynching

But not in my backyard

Please Mister President

My hands are clean...

I don’t believe in

Tax breaks

Building a portfolio

A future proofed

With fossil fuel

A world of ideology

Bigotry

Paedophiles

Or misogyny

I don’t believe in iconoclasts

Paederasts

Or Luddites

You do not speak for me

When too many people believe

In the destruction

Of things they fear

Too few stop to say

Let them be

Sit awhile by the fire

With me

Be civilized

Drink tea

Dip a digestive

Smile

Know thy neighbour

I do believe

A lesson in love

And a peck

Of good humour

Will set you free
